2006 Schedule

Boating Skills Whitewater Clinics – April 29 & 30

*	Some Clinic Instructors will be traveling from 4 Corners River Sports.

Saturday classes (Meet Taos Junction bridge at 9 am)

*	Beginning Intermediate - You have been on moving water. You know what an eddy turn, peel out and ferry are.
*	Intermediate - You are comfortable in class II rapids. You have a solid pool roll and are comfortable with wet exits and T rescues.
*	Advance Intermediate - You are comfortable in class III rapids. Have a solid combat roll.
*	Playboat - You are comfortable with surfing and stern squirts. Have a very solid combat roll.
*	Canoe - You have a canoe or C1 and have been on moving water

Sunday classes (Meet at Taos Junction Pavilion 9 am)

*	Intermediate - You are comfortable in class II rapids. You have a solid pool roll and are comfortable with wet exits and T rescues.
*	Advance Intermediate - You are comfortable in class III rapids. Have a solid combat roll.
*	Playboat - You are comfortable with surfing and stern squirts. Have a very solid combat roll.
*	Canoe - You have a canoe or C1 and have been on moving water
*	Slalom - You want to use the rivers features and master boat control

Pre-registration required (Contact - Dallas Hill 505-662-9205, [email protected] to reserve a space). Clinic cost is: $25/day + $10 ACA event insurance coverage (covers both days), if you don't have your ACA membership #. On Saturday evening there is camping and a potluck at the TJ Bridge group campsite.

Swift Water Safety Course – June 24-25 and July 15-16

TJ Bridge is the location for this clinic. At the end of this 2-day course you will be a certified technician by ACA. Cost is $150. Class is limited to 10. Contact Marcel Bieg (821-4172) for sign-up and a list of required equipment, materials and specifics on times. ACA membership number or $10.00 ACA insurance fee additional. Due to the popularity and small size of these classes payment in full is required to hold your spot.

General Information about Clinics

Several things for paddlers to know about clinics. You must be an AWC member to participate or make special arrangements with AWC. Bring your own boat, PFD and helmet. Bring your own food, water and camping equipment (most times AWC will provide a camping location). Remember that our certified instructors, and those that we bring in from outside of the club, put a fair amount of their own time and money into maintaining their ACA certification. If you think they did a good job, offer them a tip or bring them lunch or a beer, if they prefer!

August Clinic Information

Canoe Clinic on the Arkansas – August 5-7

Bob Foote will be teaching a canoe clinic on the Arkansas for the second year in a row. Reviews from last year were outstanding and you can only improve your abilities in this 3 day clinic. Call Russ Gregory at (751-4282) to sign up and get specifics. ACA membership number or $10.00 insurance fee additional.

Junior/Beginning Clinic – August 14-15

9:00AM at Taos Junction Bridge. $25/day for AWC members (nonmembers can join for an additional $15). A release form (available on Website) signed by parent or guardian is required. Contact Dallas at 662-9205 for more information and to pre-register. ACA membership number or $10.00 insurance fee additional.

Become Certified In CPR! - Abq Chapter Meeting, September 24, 1 to 5 pm

On September 24, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM, at REI (1550 Mercantile Ave NE, Albuquerque 505-247-1191) Adobe Whitewater Members will have the opportunity to learn CPR and use of the modern defibrillator from Mike Webb, a certified instructor. The class will include certification of completion from the American Red Cross. This class is limited in size, so pre-registration is required. There will be a $15 fee payable in advance for the class (reimburses cost of certification and rental of required equipment). Precision Boating Skills Whitewater Clinics – April 30 & May 1

Some clinic Instructors will be traveling from 4 Corners River Sports.

Tentative schedule of clinics include Introduction to Creeking, Playboating and Intermediate River running on Saturday and Playboating and Slalom Gate (see below) racing on Sunday.

Although some folks wonder why they would want to learn slalom gating – the question they should ask themselves is “how do I learn to control my boat so that I can be where I want to be on the river, when I want to be there.” That is what slalom gate training is and everyone needs those skills.

Some experience necessary, but we will also be able to provide both intermediate and advanced instruction offering any level of paddler to promote / improve their skills (up to and including rodeo improvements).
